Yes. This is done by the Slackware net.i boot disk.
Go to ftp://mirror.aarnet.edu.au:21/slackware or one of the
many other Slackware mirrors. You should find net.i and
rawrite in the bootdsks directory. You will need both to
create the boot disk. Once you have them, insert a formatted
floppy and type: rawrite net.i a:

Rawrite is a little fussy, so it might reject your floppy.
If so, do a full (unconditional) format and try again.
Or try another floppy.

When rawrite is finished, you are ready to go. Just stick the
floppy into the computer (386 or better) which has the network
card and reset (making sure that it boots a: before c:). Press
enter when it asks for it and soon you will have a screenful of
info about the computer. About 7 lines from the bottom there
should be a line that begins with eth0. This line will tell you
the type of network card and the irq/address being used.

I have used the net.i boot disk to diagnose five "mystery"
network cards and it worked every time. There may be some
types of network card that it can't identify, but I haven't
run across one. If it doesn't work for you, then you may
have a strange network card. Or it could be that your version
of net.i is different from the one I use. Mine is from Slackware
3.2 (which could possibly be different from the current 4.0).
I'll try to download the net.i from Slackware 4.0 in the next
few days, just to confirm that it performs the same.

As you will notice when you use the boot disk, it is trying
to load Linux. But there's no need to panic -- it won't
actually succeed -- your computer will not be contaminated :)
The floppy contains no root, so it's going nowhere. Everything
grinds to a halt once the info screen is displayed. Just
remove the floppy, reset the computer and all traces of Linux
will disappear.
