Thanks Steven, this was it!! I hope you don't mind I copy your reply
to the list. Did so in case others set out to try the same and runs into
same problem. The net.id bootdisk from Slackware 3.2 works great -
identified both my cards and I was now able to catch the resulting
output on screen. Many thanks!!
