I recently got an old Toshiba T1200 laptop at an auction.
It appears to work fine, but there was no manual with it,
so a few things have me perplexed. In particular, I'm
having some trouble sorting out its big nicad battery.
I've never used a laptop before, so I have no experience
in this area whatsoever. Does the battery require a
special recharger? Or can I recharge it by inserting it
in the laptop? The power supply for the laptop puts out
2.5 amps (at 12 volts), so I'm guessing that it has enough
grunt to recharge the battery. Is this how it's done?
The problem is complicated by the fact that the battery
has a little sliding switch which shows a red tab in one
of the two positions. Several possibilities come to mind:
one position is for charging the battery and the other is
for using the battery _or_ one position is for charging in
the laptop and the other is for charging in an external
charger _or_ one position is for using the battery and the
other is for transporting the battery (so that it doesn't
accidently short).
Has anyone got an idea what this switch does?
I've been to the Toshiba site and am none the wiser.
Help!
Cheers,
Steven
