You could say the same thing about any operating system.
They all require a bit of know how. I recently set up a
(MSwin) computer for someone who had never touched a
computer before (or even a typewriter!). It was a real
eye opener. I was surprised she had so much trouble
controlling the mouse. And the keyboard was a total
mystery to her: enter key, cursor keys, function keys
.. what a performance!

Because most of us are familiar with Windows, its
conventions seem quite natural. But we forget how
long it took us to ascend that learning curve.

Linux is no harder to learn than MSwin. The naive
user can happily point-and-click his way around the
Linux GUI and launch the applications that are on his
machine. Just like MSwin.

It is true that Linux has a lot of complicated stuff
under the surface, but so does MSwin. The only
difference is that few MSwin users go beyond point-
and-click, whereas most Linux users do.

Is it hard for a newbie to install Linux? For sure.
But how many MSwin newbies had to install MSwin on
a bare, unformatted system?

If we want to make a fair comparision, we need to
pre-install and pre-configure Linux, KDE, Star Office,
Netscape, and a whole bunch of high-quality games.
Then we can put the computer into the hands of a newbie
and ask the question: is Linux harder than MSwin?

Cheers,
Steven
