- Microsoft Ships Simple Web-Publishing Tool
Microsoft shipped a desktop application today that lets
customers add Internet multimedia features to Office
documents without the need for HTML coding. Vizact 2000,
priced at $149, can publish Word, Excel, Outlook, and other
Office files on the Web that include images, animation, and
interactive bullets.
Unlike Microsoft's professional publishing package,
FrontPage, Vizact is intended to allow novice users to add
sales-enhancing Web features.
Great American Office Supply, a $5 million online retailer
of office accessories and computer products in Bedford,
N.H., that is testing Vizact, has for three months sent
E-mail promotions on technology products to preferred
customers using the product. "It's idiot-simple to use,"
says Kevin Van Arsdell, president of Great American.

IF anyone buys this one they're killing the openness of the web.
