It's getting mighty simple now, redhat 6.0 was as easy for me to install as
win98, maybe easier? To simply use the resulting installation as a
workstation was equally easy, using the GUI just as one uses w9x. The
basic necessary applications were already there, and I found it not
terribly difficult to add a couple applications myself, licq being one of
them.
I do, however, agree that one is quite dysfunctional in that environment
for some time if anything needs doing, rather like a brand new computer
user, really. I don't doubt if one devoted the same time to it that one
had in the M$ environment (Dos and win) that one could achieve an equitable
level of skill. The trick for us is motivation as we are able to
effectively use the familiar system to meet all our needs, and have become
dependent on those functions performed on our computer.

I think that a new computer user, presented with a well installed Linux
basic operating system with powerful GUI, would find it no more challenge
to learn than were it pre-installed with Windows, in today's
fashion. *breathe, pant*

that was my assumption, I hope I was gentle in informing you.

If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
