Oops, missed this previously. It won't work with Win98. Personal NetWare is
based on Novell's VLM stack (it runs as a VLM protocol module, PNW.VLM) and is
not compatible with NetWare itself (well, it has some strange command verbs,
but the majority are NetWare 2 verbs). It was possible to set up a Win95 box
to work as a client-only (no server) on a PNW network by manually installing a
load of stuff and fiddling about, eventually booting the station with VLMs and
the 16-bit stack in low memory. This meant that Windows couldn't use any
32-bit network drivers though. However, with Win98, it seems that no longer
works.

Quite right. Be very, very afraid. Or foolhardy with your money for a small
installation.

Not really. The cable modem appears as a network interface to the OS, which
is assigned an IP address by the router at the other end. The OS routes
packets from that IP address to others on the private network. IP
Masquerading means that any packets coming from the network are translated so
it appears to only be one computer accessing the cable modem. The same thing
happens when you dial-out with a regular modem - it gets assigned an IP
address, and the computer can route packets between the two networks.

So will Windows and DOS :) They're just missing the correct router software
usually (routers are available for Novell's IPX stack, and there are various
IP routers for various other systems).

What about Hilly? :)
