The thing is, to create a universal OS with a GUI that is extremely simple
to use and intuitive, that can be installed and run on almost any hardware
platform, it's a tough row to hoe.  As redhat with xwindows demonstrates
well, you wind up with a ton of bloat and lots of stupid little glitches
that can take you down.  OTOH, I've got my win98 nicely tuned and it hasn't
had serious crash problems (like daily or even every other day) for months
now.  Haven't had to reinstall since last march!  Only way you could really
make a good system that was intuitive and stable would be to creatie it
specifically to suit the system it goes on, apps and all, then don't change
anything thereafter.
