Ok... NetWare is an operating system. It is loaded from a DOS prompt (the
SERVER.EXE file), which then loads the OS itself (SERVER.NLM). When NetWare
is in memory it has complete control of the hardware. During boot it needs to
access some files on the DOS partition - it does this by calling DOS itself.
DOS remains in memory throughout NetWare's execution unless the commands
'REMOVE DOS' or 'SECURE CONSOLE' are entered at the system console prompt. If
DOS is removed from memory NetWare can no longer access the DOS partition, and
DOWNing the server will reboot the machine. If DOS is in memory when the
server is DOWNed, the user can EXIT to the DOS prompt.
