Hmm, never heard of a modem requiring this, although mine don't have any
comprehensive documentation. Might be related to fone phreaking, where one
common technique used to be to send a 1200 or 1800Hz signal down the line to
get into trunk mode. I haven't heard much about it recently. How old is this
modem?
I would recommend trying it over here first with, then without this setting,
and checking which gives best performance.
