At school, one classroom is filled with compaqs that have no real power
button, nor even a reset button, only a "sleep" button that doesn't seem to
function at all in any case. In order to actually turn one of the damn
things off we had to remove the power cord. not very sensible, we usually
leave the power cord in to help offset the negligence of not using wrist
straps. "yes, they're a good thing, but you don't *really* need them and
anyway, nobody uses them." is what I've been told. Still wish I could spot
one in a store, I want to use one.
At any rate, these stupid machines would randomly power on periodically in
a mostly still room (I was reading in a chair up front) with nobody doing
anything near them. If it were mine, I'd set a power switch on the whole
room so they'd all be *off* with the flip of one switch, never mind
winblows getting upset at not being shutdown right. The day one can't just
switch the things off is the day mankind loses to technology.
