I'm right handed and I find it easier to change gears with my left
hand. (I have played some arcade games with the gear stick on the
other side and I found it strange)

Also IMHO the left foot (for the clutch) and the left hand (for the
gearstick) make it easier to get the changover right (all on the
same side of the body). I've only see a manual car on TV that drives
on the right-hand side of the road a few times [old movie, vintage
car; a sports car; and the trucks; and from Germany, France, Rio]
