Hi All,
I recently revived and older 386 sx/16, so far I've
had pretty good luck with it. Everything has worked
fine except I'm having trouble with the com ports. It
has them on the motherboard so I hooked up a port to
one of them and enabled it in the bios. I did this so
I could put a mouse on the computer but each time I go
to install the mouse it says it can't find it. I've
changed the addressing on the ports in the bios, I've
also hooked up the port to the other connector on the
motherboard with the same results. The only port I
had was a 25 pin serial so I've got an adapter on it
to plug in the mouse, could that be making a
difference? Could their be a conflict with something
else in the computer? I have two hard drives in it,
one is an IDE and the other is an old Seagate RLL SCSI
80 meg hard drive, it has it's own interface card.
The IDE is hooked into the motherboard. I also have a
network card installed and was considering adding a
modem but I havent' done that yet, waiting to see if I
can get a mouse working first. I do have a couple of
I/O Card's but I don't have the documentation for them
so I can't change the jumper settings to disable
everything except the com ports. Does anyone know of
a site that has information on these older cards? I
have searched on the web but haven't come up with
anything. I tried looking up the manufacturer of the
cards but with no luck. If anyone has any ideas I'm
open to them.
Thanks,
=====
