Perhaps they operate like, dare I say it here, M*c keyboards.

I am typing on a keyboard with a PS/2 port in the side of it for a mouse.
However, the cable from the keyboard terminates in two PS/2 plugs, one for
the keyboard, and one for the mouse.  Sort of a mouse extension cord,
probably meant for towers.

Maybe there's a driver around for those keyboards that would allow their use
(with a mouse) on a regular PS/2 port.
