What happens? Do you get an error message?
In a BBS network i once participated (Mausnetz, it worked similar to
UUCP, getting all messages in a big packed file and read while offline)
you could also send mail to yourself. The mailer software in the BBS
would analyze the mail, and emit a comment in the lines of "speaking to
yourseld can lead to personality problems!" in its log file. But it
worked, of course.
