Boanne,
Maybe it's just as well that you weren't able to sign up with
Yahoo, even though Yahoo has POP3. The reason I say this is that
at least half the time when I'm downloading my messages via
either Arachne 1.50 Insight or Outlook Express with I.E. 4.01, it
stops probably at least 50% of the time with an error of some
sort. When that happens the messages are in my computer ready for
reading, but none of them are deleted from the Yahoo server! It
seems that only when all the messages are received are they then
all deleted from the server. That's painful when I have 125
messages and it stops at 98. I then have to log-in to Yahoo to
read/delete them, then delete them from Arachne Insight or
Outlook Express (whichever I'm using).
When I signed up for Yahoo POP mail, I'm pretty sure I had
signed-in to my Yahoo account with either Opera or I.E. (I can't
remember which). I remember not being able reliably to log-in to
Yahoo with Arachne. There was some error message which mentioned
cookies, though Arachne is supposed to accept cookies. Another
strange thing about Yahoo is that I can log-in through my local
library text-only Internet connection which uses some version of
Lynx, which I access with DOS-based Kermit.
You mentioned not being able to access MailCity with Arachne, but
the last time I tried it I was successful. I also could get into
Eudoramail, CCNMail, and Excite. As far as I can tell, MailCity
doesn't have POP3 mail; neither do the others I've mentioned nor
does Hotmail.
