Doesn't GIF stand for "Graphics Interchange Format" So with the same "g" as
in graphics sounds reasonable (and that's the way I pronounce it <g>).

This reminds me of a (swedish) joke I saw about jpeg. It's pronounced in
such a way here in Sweden that it could be retranslated into "jeep egg"
(which is actually how it's pronounced).
BTW: It's jay-peg in english IIRC
