Staroffice, WordPro and IBM Works do, Staroffice can import WordPerfect documents,
probably WordPro too. There are additional filters for Word97 at least, some 7mb to 
download...

If fast save is used with MS-Word, the document can only be opened by Word or 
Word-Viewer. The reason is that every version of the document is saved within it, if 
you
delete half of the contents, the filesize will grow! The remedy is to save the 
document in another filename. The contents can be copied from Wordviewer to some other
program too. (In Windows, of course).
