Try transfering a document with an embedded graphics file (ie JPG) between
WordPerfect, WinWord and WordPad. I had a Very Bad Experience with that
recently when trying to print a WordPerfect document on a friend's computer
which had Word. I ended up copying across the JPEG files and recreating the
document from scratch, definately not fun.
IMHO there just isn't a decent, common, powerful wordprocessing document
standard yet. I had heaps of problems trying to create an eLetter.com
document (which included photos) from my WordPerfect 8, even with the help
of a friend''s PC with WinWord. The only solution that worked in the end was
to print to a PostScript format file and upload that.
Someone mentioned that Microsoft have Word for DOS 5.5 for download - I
presume that's the Y2K bug-fix version. Is that free or only available to
registered users?
BTW Thanks to everybody who replied to my message about the Sony CD-ROM
drives. I've had Internet access problems here lately which is why I haven't
done anything more, but I'll try to get my hands on some of those $5
controller cards, and use floppy cables to connect them.
Cheers
Paul
