Excuse me Boanne.. but most useless mail about the Virus Warning.. the
ranting and so on, comes from _you_ and to be honest.. i'm sick of it. You
hate the fact Yolanda send a Virus Warning.. so you send tons of stupid,
useless messages who have absolutely nothing to do with the mailing list...
filling my mailbox, and eating my bandwith.. In fact you say you hate
Windows.. fine for me.. you never use it.. fine for me.. but then don't
pretend to know all about it: how it works, how bad it is, and what bloat it
is... if you don't use it, how would you know ?

And btw.. i think most of these Windows-haters are just trying to get
popular.. crying for attention.. i don't like Windows that much, but i'm not
busy whole days telling everyone how much Windows sucks.. no, instead i'm
busy using Linux..

Second... standards are good... if there were no standards... forget about
_The Internet_ and TCP/IP is genious ?? well... it's not *that* genious..
in fact it only became standard, because of coincidence IIRC.

Third a banking system with many different computer systems? not that good
as you may think... suppose you got all the same systems.. then it's very
easy to keep track on new exploits and so on.. when you got many different
systems it gets far more difficult.. talk to software engineers.. when 2
banks merge.. their computer systems have to be merged too. well.. stuff
gets a real mess then...

And about the virus writers. Only reason DOS isn't attacked these days, is
because DOS isn't used that much anymore... when i was at school, everyone
there used DOS.. and there were _many_ DOS-viruses.. in fact a friend of
mine collected them to reverse engineer them.. btw, writing a virus in DOS
is easy.. but more difficult than just programming a Word-macro, or a
vb-script... how many DOS-users do you think got infected with a boot-virus,
because they got an infected boot-diskette from someone ? well... where
they in fact to stupid to make their own boot-diskette ?? i mean... making
a boot-diskette in DOS is trivial, isn't it ? Earlier on.. there was only
one way to write a virus.. use assembler.. nowadays it's much easier.. with
those scripting-languages.. in Windows

btw.. someone said you have to be root to write a virus/worm on a
Linux-system.. well that's wrong... indeed, if it gets root access, it will
be more powerfull, but you don't have to gain root access to put the virus
on the system... it's sufficient to have normal access to the system.. you
just make a trojan horse.. if root uses that program.. then you do whatever
you like to do, without people noticing it..

hmmm.. the first internet-worm was written by a student.. in fact he did it
as sort of an experiment.. it had several ways to move itself on other
machines, and it also made sure there weren't too much worms on one machine,
so people wouldn't notice.. in fact.. that was a pretty genious piece of
software..

finally... i've been using DOS, Windows, Linux... i don't use virus
scanners.. and as far as i know, i've never been infected.. reason i don't
use a virus scanner ? well... they just slowed down my pc too much..

and virus writers think this way... there's a chance i get caught.. because
of that chance, i want a high reward... that reward is the number of systems
infected... plus all the attention the virus gets in the media... heh... i
bet the maker of ILOVEYOU is extremely happy now... even if he'll get into
prison.. he's famous now... and there're even some people who think he did a
good thing... just like when an orcane destroys some cities, people'd say..
'oh.. in that city, people lived in sin.. so it's a punishment from God...
i'm happy with that..' how naive...

well.. i didn't wanna 'help' in this stupid ranting, because i simply don't
think it's worth the attention.. i mean you guys are starting a 'war'
because of a stupid virus warning... is it really worth it... i mean..
Boanne.. are you really gonna hate everyone who's driving a new car, because
you drive an old one and think that's the 'real' stuff ? i think there's
already ranting enough in this stupid world to spend tens of mails on the
fact that some people use Windows and you think they're idiots... well.. let
them be idiots, they don't hurt you, do they ? in fact, if all these idiots
were using DOS nowadays, chances were you'd been hurt with a DOS
ILOVEYOU-lookalike...

i know there was much hype about the ILOVEYOU-virus, and that it works on
the nerves of people who don't have anything to do with it... it worked on
my nerves too.. but at least i'm a bit more tolerant... only thing you
reached with the ranting is that you're still talking about something you
originally said you didn't wanna talk about... i mean.. did you (Boanne)
count the mails you sent the last couple of days ?

grr... i know this mail is way too long.. and it has absolutely nothing to
do with the mailing-list.. but i'm just too mad... in stead of putting all
your energy in this rant... just do something nice with that energy...

Piwi

PS i'm not responding to any flames on me... so don't waste your energy
writing any.. unless you gotta say something usefull.
