Me too, and the embarassment is getting easier to take all the time...
Anyhoo, the thing had booted fine to floppy, but as I said in another post,
the trouble was that I presumed that all connectors had pin1 oriented in
the same physical direction relative to the back of the board.  Ooops, just
when you get to expecting logic, the manufacturers assure you that there is
none!
Glad I have the manual for this board!
so now it's happily crunching through a basic RH6.0 Linux
install.  Yaaaaaaaaayyyy!!
