Yes, could be true, except that some cars, such as some models of the 1970
Chevy C/10 pickup, have what is called "electronically controlled spark."
This system reduced the amount of spark therefore reducing the amount of gas
released into the atmosphere.  Neat thing is that this existed in the 1970's
;-)

But they might not enjoy the high price of fixing them!  I had a 1988 Subaru
XT6, which had just had fuel "rejection" (LOL) installed at that model year.
  It took 50 dollars to find a danged BLOWN FUSE!!!  That makes mechanics
seem dumb, don't you think???  Because of implementing computers into cars,
mechanics just can't use that "15-lb computer" in their head anymore--they
just need to pull out their trusty ECU Decoder!  Also, to find out why my
car would start up, then die, it took them another $50 to find a melted
alternator connector, which shorted out the system...Can't they use their
EYES anymore???
