Last time I looked, all the DOS NFS _clients_ were
commercial products. There is, however, a freeware
NFS _server_ which I have used to transfer files
from a DOS system to a Linux system (using Linux
as the client). The DOS NFS server is called SOSS.

Of course, if you want a free NFS client on your DOS
machine, you can put BasicLinux (2meg) in a DOS directory
and boot it when you need it. BasicLinux will be able to
mount your DOS partition and copy files to it from the
network. You can even use Links to browse the NFS files
and download them to your DOS partition.

BasicLinux works for PLIP, SLIP or ethernet networks.
Just configure the network, mount the NFS server on /mnt
and mount the DOS partition on /hd. You simply copy the
files you want from /mnt to /hd (this is very easy to do
with Links). All of this can be done automatically by
making a customized version of BasicLinux.

Cheers,
Steven
