Do any of the DOS internet mail tools have nearly
the same functionality of the old BBS QWKmail apps
like Bluewave and Offline.exe?
AS you see below, this is composed with Arachne, a
DOS GUI browswer that surfs pretty well, but email
done within a GUI screen is clumsy and slow. for
one thing, it wont let me shell out from this composer.
Specifically, I remember Offline.exe would:
sort the incoming messages according to subject or
author, and had convenient twit filters.
you could follow thread or author or most recent.
I like a database of taglines.
Since Offline was in text mode, screens flipped fast.
If I wanted to see an attached .jpg, it would shell
out to graphic tools.
I didnt wait for banner ads to paint before seeing the text.
Finally, I live in a rural area, with miles of powerline
strun across Ozark valleys that just sucks lightning outta
the sky. Sure I gotta ferro-surge sucker (the only kind
to bother with, MOVs stop sucking), but I dont liketa leave
the PC on anyway.
So, I like a fast boot. DR-DOS 7 boots and gets into the
ISP with Arachne in 35 seconds. Linux/Netscape on the very
same system takes over 4 minutes. I dont do windoz.
no copywrite; do what you will with it.
