So, I go to Goodwill as I like to do, towards the end of the week. I
like to see if they have any SurvPC stuff that I might buy at a good
price, or maybe a desk, or printer stand or something. Plus, I have
been wanting a nice set of old speakers to hook up to my Old Fisher
receiver, that I want to hook up to this computer... (My Socket7/WIin98
computer).
On the floor, I see the computer I donated last week. I made sure the
MFM drive was low level formatted, high level formatted. I made sure
the setup disk was in the floppy drive. It had a nice video card, a
Diamond VGA. It had been converted to a 1.44meg floppy drive, a Teac.
It had spare parts.
It is now RIPPED APART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The drives are gone, the video card it gone, the front bezel is broken,
the steel cover is bent! The parts are scattered throughout the
area!!!!!
I also saw an old AT&T (built by Olivetti) that had had its old HD
removed as well, and some other card. Only they didn't break it to do
it. I know they were there earlier, because I looked at the computer,
only I didn't take stuff out, and I replaced the lid..........just like
I found it.
I didn't talk to the workers, I was too mad, and they were all busy with
customers. I don't think they let people disassemble computers,
normally. I think someone just did it, and then took the components up
to the register.... or they had a coat big enough to hide 2-5.25" 1/2
height MFM drives, a 3.5" drive, plus cards, and floppy drive!
This was my 2nd or 3rd computer, probably the first PC that I used all
the time. I figured since I didn't use it anymore, and hadn't for some
time, I would pass it on to someone else. It even had a proprietary
memory expansion card that I included...... That would be so hard to
find, I should go get it, because it wasn't installed in the computer,
it was in the box, and is still there.
I posted quite a bit to the Nettamer and Survpc lists with it, argued
with a Mac guy, England, about how the world works (economically
speaking.
Maybe I should go and get the remainder of it.... I can fix it. I could
convert it to SCSI since the MFM drives are gone... I always wanted to
do that. The only thing is the lid.... it is pretty bad.
And on top of the my mother is getting rid of my SurvCar... and 83
Oldsmobile Delta 88, that needs work, but I really wanted it! I just
hadn't done anything with it, and I can't do anything about it now. It
was my Grandparents car, and then my parents drive it, and it was the
first car I got to drive around.
At least I don't have to go to work today....... but I do have to go to
a wedding, that will once again tell me that I don't have a "significant
other"
So......... How is your day going?????
