Anyone can sign up for a free email account with free access to a server
running IMAP4 protocol at http://www.subdimension.com. This service works
fine for me with PC-PINE for DOS, an IMAP client. The mail server at
Subdimension also runs POP3 protocol and Subdimension provides also
free web-based email.

All the best,
