Hello everyone.
I realize softcon has been out of communication for some time (about a
week++a couple days) I assure you this was not our doing, neither did it
have to do with our upstream provider, or even their upstream.
What actually happened is this.
We had our account with a reseller of covad services, and when we obtained
our connection, it was with covad lines that we were connected to the net.
Unfortunately for us, Covad decided they no longer wanted any resellers,
so they pulled the plug on literally hundreds of providers all
simultaneously. We lost our access along with everyone else all at the
same time. Efforts to get reconnected led to nothing, so I went out to
the co-location site, removed my server from the premesis, and brought
into my newly purchased home.
After doing some work behind the scenes, softcon.com is now reachable
again, and that means everyone on our server is again reachable. We have
taken steps to ensure this sort of thing cannot knock us offline if it
happens again. We now have a temporary setup we will use until our new
lines get installed, and at that time, we will move the connection to
these lines. There will be absolutely no interruption in service, except
for the few minutes it takes to reconnect to the new lines. We will leave
our current connection on until move to the new service has been verified
and no more traffic is passing over our current link.
We are also working on alternative access connections to prevent a similar
occurence. if things go as planned, we will have 3 access points to the
net, so loss of any one of them will not seriously affect our
accessibility from outside.
We will keep you informed as things change.
