Actually, if it is religious fundamentalists, that'd
be right-wing, not left. But the mind of the zealot
is very little different in either case, dementia.

I didnt say that, and dont know. do know that downloading
some software costs nothing, but since knowledge is power,
would be critical if what you suggest comes to pass. Murphy's
law suggests that that which you prepare for does not happen.
You buy insurance for other things for the same reason.

As noted already, the Red Cross was already short on
plasma; if this motivates people to donate to stock
up to appropriate levels, all the better. As for what
is really big, "The only thing we have to fear, is
fear itself." I cannot judge the degree of panic, if
any, that might begin, if say, the transnational
corporations begin to again downsize and lay people
off as they have been doing.

Obviously, this will have an effect on profits, and it
is a damn moot point whether the 'recession' we have
already seen reported will continue, level off, begin
to recoup losses, or spiral into panic. There has been
a lotta conspiracy theories around suggesting that the
entire global economy is controlled by some hidden hand;
if so, we might need a steady grip. If not, and it
degrades into every man for himself...

But wherever you find yourself, if you can make computers
do something useful, you help the situation. We already
see some areas where the phone service and internet does
not function well, if at all.

Already I have downloaded the software to use the sound
blaster with a radio transmitter, for high speed data.
That capability might be useful in helping people get
in touch with those they care about. There is digital
terrorism as well, and the net could use a backup.
