If you have a kernel for it to boot, and you have or know of a root
partition with a basic installation on, sure.  Slackware's setup diskettes
would let you mount a Linux partition if it's still valid.

Ctrl-Alt-Delete.  Or does DOS take longer to boot than you always say?

Huh?  What?  Shared files are rarely opened for writing, and of course an
open file is a concept that only applied to the OS that opened it.  Given
those, it should be obvious that few files need to be closed at all during a
kernel shutdown.  The traditional sync; sync; halt during system shutdown
closes out user data files normally.
