I dunno the nomenclature Ben, all I know is that it takes
Linux much longer to shut down than it does for dr-dos to
boot, which makes the switch back to dos inconvenient.

As for the fact that the rest of the world has gone GUI, I
have no dog in that fight. I dont do much work with graphics,
99%+ is reading and writing text like this. Maybe that makes
me unusual, I dunno. But if they need to work with images,
then maybe they should stick with GUIs.

I find that I more often work with long texts, like copies of
entire novels, and I note that when I do that in a GUI, it is
slower than slugs on beer. The average page of a book is 65
characters long, @45 lines per page. About 3K. So, a 400 page
book would be about 1.2 gig, but after PKZIP does it, more
like 300k, and I might do that once a week. So, I dont spend
a lotta time waiting for 'long downloads'. I only get about
a dozen emails outside of SPAM a day, so I dont spend a lotta
time waiting for that to come down either.

And if I get something I wanna keep, I copy it to a dos drive,
which is never online and exposed to sabotage software. Like a
lotta rural folks, I only work at one computer, and the only
networking is thru the modem to the ISP. Multi-tasking under
these conditions is a trivial issue. If the computer takes a
long time with a task, I'll get up and go do the dishes. I can
multitask in my own way, I have that kind of life.
