Hi Jude,

About "Access to this mail-list thru a .QWK Off-Line Mail Reader"
of January 27:

MS> ...the `FidoNet_DOS-InterNet' echo is in pretty bad shape... ...so
MS> i finally decided to check the SoftCon ~WEB~ site...
JD> If you connect to a unix shell...
MS> ...i don't. ...it would be quite a far stretch from what i'm ready
MS> to consider. ...i may be tempted later, if i can assimilate...
JD> Try checking out www.shellworld.net and www.freeshell.org.

That's a usefull information which i'll keep with my correspondance
and i intend to check it more thoroughly, later... Well, ShellWorld was
temporarily down when i decided to visit that one but SDF (a system that
Daniel Finster operates) sounded familiar, especially when LoneStar made
it up to the surface: i believe i registered there on many occasions...

                                   :)

JD> The shellworld.net site has real support on it...

It shure did sound promissing already when i 1st heard of LoneStar.

JD> They may have a local dial up number in your area...

Sympatico did follow me when i needed to move from Montreal to this
country-side and they hosted my ~WEB~ site for years. I heard Sympatico
no longer supports the later part for new members and it may be a reason
why to change of ~ISP~, should they ever drop me down. I considered one
alternative awhile ago, to subscribe to a long-distance plan and then to
register as a member of the National Capital FreeNet. I learned, only a
couple hours before that i might not have been totaly happy with that...
I had a thought about the possibility to drop the telephone lately, it's
an option for me to join the high-speed modem club since i don't get too
many calls anyway. Such a scenario means using a 2-lines closed-circuit
C.O. for me, as i intend to remain a LEGACY DOS InterNet/BBS hobbyist...
There are DOS ~PPP~ server programs that i might install on my P-133 PC,
it would act as a bridge between my INet access and LEGACY machines. :>
A "pre-paid" cellular is so cheap these days that it might fill the gap;
but since we're not there yet, the problem of an alternate ~PPP~ account
is theoretical (and free ~ASP~s have gone `Windows'-only 2 years ago)!!!

                                  ;->

In any case, no BBS or BBS-like system that i know is available for
the people who live around here and even if there were, such BBSes would
not be very popular, i suppose, the French networks closed down as well.

     That doesn't mean i can't ~TelNet~ to LoneStar, but that's on hold,
unless what you have in mind implies that i'll gain access to this mail-
list in the very same way that i used to know with plain-old BBSes. :^)

     I have a sloppy learning-curve these days, i don't want to invest a
lot of energy on this and i've got a few other concerns waiting as well.
The best i'm ready to do right now is to visit the SoftCon ~WEB~ site in
order to switch the packaging options to something more practical to me.

                                  8*)

Yet, thanks for your sollicitude! I'll keep reading about options.

                                  8^D

                                                    Salutations,
