make any configuration changes because I have plenty of other players that
do work flawlessly. I had better make it clear that I am referring to
XTC's playing of MP3s. In playing MODs, XTC is fine, but makes a mess of
.IT modules on my rig. And MP3s are full of pops and squeaks.
But mostly I deal with MIDI and MP3. (see my sig. below).

Oh yes. Thanks to some folks on this and other lists, I actually have
about 619 - 620 kb of orthodox memory. For Impulse Tracker, one also
needs to make EMS available.
