For that you need the full glibc2 package (in /slackware/l/).
You also need the following packages from /slackware/d/
binutils, gcc, kernel-headers and make.  However, it is risky
installing these piecemeal in a mixed installation.  I would
recommend doing a proper installation of Slackware 8.1 (rather
than trying to do this on a BasicLinux foundation).

Perhaps you would like to try my Slackware 8.1 installation
routine.  It gives you a 26mb foundation (using standard
Slack81 packages).  You can then add the GCC packages to
this real Slack81 foundation.

There have been no significant changes to baslinux.gz, just
a bunch of minor changes.  There is no reason for users of 1.7
to upgrade to 1.8.  The new install-to-HD package (released
a few weeks ago) had more significant improvements.
