My Slack71 has arrived and I'm very impressed with the CDroms. Commercially pressed (not CD-R) and nicely organized. All the installation stuff is on one CD (packages, kernels, modules) plus all the documentation is on that CD too. I'll be leaving that CD in my drive permanently. The other two CDroms won't be used nearly as much, but it's great to have them as a resource. I've now got a basic Slack71 running with manpages, networking, ppp and pine/pico. Comes in at under 40mb. That's just the raw installation -- no trimming yet. It shouldn't be too hard to squeeze it down to BasicLinux-size. The biggest worry on the horizon is the libraries. glibc2.1 weighs in at over a megabyte (twice the size of libc5) plus it's got a gang of support libraries. Clearly, I'm going to have to spend some time learning which of those support libraries can safely be eliminated.
