Wrong; those viruses that exploit Outlook/IE bugs to execute themselves
automatically are actually exploiting flaws in IE's HTML renderer component.
The preview pane and message window in Outlook Express (and similar features
in Outlook, and sundry other bits and pieces -- Add/Remove Programs in
Windows 2000 and up, for instance) use this renderer component to display
HTML; if one were to rename the .DLL containing the code a lot of things
would probably break straight away. Certainly one would not be able to read
any e-mail at all in Outlook.

That said, there is a way to make use of Mozilla's renderer (the Gecko
engine) in place of IE's; this involves taking a hex editor to any apps that
use IE and changing the GUID for IE's renderer to that of Mozilla's.
There's a page on the web somewhere, but I can't put my hands on the URL at
the moment.
