Okay- now we can put it all together.
energy (joules) = potential (volts) * current (charge per second, or amps)
* time (seconds)

So if we take an electron, accelerate it through a voltage gap of 1 volt
for 1 second, it will have acquired an energy of one joule. What we see
here is that energy and time go together, like position and momentum do.
Physics is fun when you're using it for renewable energy.

So, back to the practical application, a 20 W fluorescent bulb, operating
at a house potential of 120 V, will take that electrons energy and convert
it to light. If we run a 20 W bulb for 100 hours, we have used 2 kWh of
energy - or about 7,200,000 joules. If we build a 8 kW solar system on
the roof (average), and operate it for ~10 hours a day, we will generate
80 kWh of energy per day - and we will charge up our battery system in the
basement, at a faster or slower rate depending on how 'full' the batteries
are, at constant power of 8 kW, but with varying voltage and current.

This is a good argument for decentralized energy generation, since there
is less loss of energy due to resistance over the grid, and plenty of
energy is generated. Thanks for clearing this up, everyone... unless
I've blundered? Now, on to filling up the car...
