Ivan Illich died on Monday, Dec. 2 in Bremen, Germany, at age 76. His 
classic "Energy and Equity" is one of the most brilliant and 
thought-provoking pieces on transportation  ever written. It remains 
as relevant today as in 1973, when it was first published in Le Monde.
