Holger, with all due respect, yours is exactly the type of response that
summarizes why SVG is having such problems gaining broader desktop acceptance.
That type of attitude will not help the cause at all. The whole point is that
large enterprise suppliers have an identified need to deliver interactive,
highly graphical dashboard functionality to their users. SVG could be an
excellent choice for this (we are using it in this role). But thus far, it
hasn't gained much traction on the corporate desktop. By posting the link, I
had hoped to stimulate some discussion on the topic. The fact that you can't
see "how this relates to SVG" concerns me! Without the recognition that there
needs to be a few "killer apps" to place SVG in a prominent position on the
desktop, progress will be slowed. To a lesser degree, the release of Apple's
Tiger this week presents another potential "opportunity lost". The desktop
widgets on Tiger certainly could easily have been SVG instead of
DHTML/script/images. SVG evangelism is simply not getting to the influencers
who make these design decisions. It needs to. The question is, how does this
happen?

Mit freundlichen Gren,

Rick
