Does it really boil down to SEO?  If that was true, there would be no technical 
reason for using SVG and no point at all in using it e.g. for intranet 
applications or services that are tailored, say, to a certain scientific 
community that would use it no matter what Google says.  I *don't* feel that's 
the case, but then I don't know enough about Canvas.  This should encourage me 
to learn more about it.
