I identified the culprit is was the body tag for the site menu made by 'AlltheWebMenus' a very popular tool. When I removed this line of code just after the body tag the swfobject worked. I then downloaded the latest version of the ATWM and recompliled my menu, uploaded it and they both worked happily in unison. The version history does mention any fixes to substantiate why it worked but as it does I am grateful.
I had thought it was all the 'Nifty' and or 'Lightbox js code files but the problem still existed with all these removed and only teh swfobject as a script code in the head. It was then I thought about the ATWM script tag after the body code. If you could explain what this was or how it was fixed it would be a bonus, as I would know what to look out for when using it on other sites with variuos js code.
