Is there a build of the latest git version available or is it self-compile
only?

I've spent hours installing Linux (ubuntu) and trying to get a build of the
latest version working whilst trying to cross compile for windows and
unfortunately there are a few too many hurdles for such a linux/C++ noob as
myself.

I believe I have all of the dependencies installed but am completely stumped
with creating the windows installer, when i run the command from the FAQ:

chekcing build system type... Invalid configuration 'i686-pc-linux-':machine
'i686-pc-linux' not recognized
configure: error: /bin/bash ./config.sub i686-pc-linux- failed

If anyone can please help that would be great.
