I think it might help to rephrase Niels' question. It sounds to me like he
wants to implement something like the 'Address' drop-down control in
Internet Explorer. Among other requirements on this control would be that,
as you type text into the 'text box' (or rather, into the editable part of
the drop-down combo box), the drop-down list appears and scrolls through the
previously-entered options (in the browser case, URLs, but this control
could have other uses too).
Not being a complete control freak, I'm not sure exactly what this control
might be called, or what shareware or other options you may have: there
ought to be a ready-made control out there by now. But as a first
suggestion, you could consider customising an editable combo box. There are
also a number of postings to this list concerning the ins and outs of
handling keyboard events in text boxes; I would have thought you'd need to
handle a keyPressed event by calling setSelectedItem() as appropriate on the
JComboBox, but there's a fair amount to do for this solution...

I opened IE. I pressed a few keys. Nothing happened.
I remain confused.

Try Opera or IE so you can see an example application, perhaps
without an scrollbar. So think we try to write an IE in java. OK?
Bye
