Hi all,

Swisscom, and its predecessors, have never cared much about "public" service.
Neither a market driven company, nor a customer-minded organization can
describe our national incubant, Swisscom. It is a ruthless corporation, which has
as only goal to have a better EBDITA result quarter after quarter.

Owning 99% of the ADSL market, with Fixnet and BBCS Wholesale services, they wish
to acquire some additional marketshares in the content delivery area.

When Cablecom acquired/merged with Swissonline, in its days, nobody cried faul
play and complained that such a move was a monopolistic approach of the service
provider/delivery market. When Cablecom came with voice services, again nobody
made a big fuss about it.

Swisscom is retooling itself in regard to a fierce competition that is gaining
rapidly and widely market shares. Sorry for the regional and midrange ISPs, but I
dont think that Swisscom cares much about you guys and doesnt view you as
competitors, maybe just as yet another a low cost revenue stream...

Maybe I am wrong, but neither the last mile deregulation, nor the consolidation
Swissco made by integrating Bluewin into Fixnet will have an impact on the
overall situation of ISPs in Switzerland. When Swisscom offered 0842 numbers and
gave it first to Bluewin as birth gift, did it prevent ISPs to find a clever
alternativ within the next few months? It enabled quite a few ISPs to grow and
gain more market shares. We had to rethink ourselves and reinvent the concepts
that we based our architectures upon. The same happend when ADSL was introduced.

We shall not forget that Swisscom is the incubant and therefor will always have a
huge leap of advance on any CLEC, weither be it in the Voice or the Data market.

Now I'll turn silent again for a while...

Cheers,

Karim
