I agree some work on a symfony shop would be fantastic... The main
thing (personally) I don't like about Drupal or similar solutions is
that without really going through all the code, you never know whats
in there, and so you're never 100% confident about its security...
There are also all the other benefits you mention like testing etc
having it in symfony.

Building on that, cranking out a shop in symfony may not even be the
best way forward, rather than a really good manual with LOTS of
example code to enable someone to easily build one themselves? That
might be something the community would really want?
