Fortunately, APC isn't required to run Symfony. But what a pain it is that APC isn't available on Windows, and that pecl4win.php.net is no longer, and rant, rant. Windows is definitely a second-class citizen in the PHP community. I ran 5.2.9 for a long time just so I could use php_apc, but eventually gave it up.
