comment 88: I'm not sure what you mean by "did you pass them". Do you mean "do your changes pass on my system?" then no, I get the same result. If you mean "do I have a change that doesn't fail for those?" then yes, in branch 'rev2', commit 'nic solver mods' the result in 32-bit is 'log(-1 + y*(-4 + y**2)**(1/2)/2 + y**2/2)/2' but when I tried to fix other things then I get 'nan'.
comment 89: the reason for the I*pi is that the numer_denom for log was unconditionally doing log(numer) - log(denom)...I changed that in the 'nic solver mods' commit of rev2.
regarding 91: it seems to me that there is just one solution and whether we like it or not depends on how we want to simplify/rewrite it. What sort of approaches do you envision for solve strategies that would give different results?
