The way that I say to do it is the standard way. If your clone from the official repo, you can just do git pull in master to get the most recent changes (otherwise, you have to fetch in the changes and merge them manually).
So while it is indeed true that there are a dozen different ways to do just about anything in git, I think our officially recommended way should be to clone from the official repo.
