We use dbus activation (and thanks again to you for the tip on that). As John knows but neglected to mention :), dbus activation has the advantage of being quite smart. If you prefer to run sync-engine yourself with your own options, you certainly can, and then the dbus activation will recognize that it's already running and not do anything.
