Thanks. I took a closer look at libgdata, and unfortunately it seems to
use a login method that isn't supported for Google Tasks; in fact, it
seems to be using an  API that was recently deprecated by Google. It
looks like I'm on my own, but my experiments thus far seem quite
promising.

"Deprecated" doesn't actually mean it doesn't work. Besides, as some "important" apps depend on it, then one can count on it to work even after OAuth 1 will be kicked out.

I don't intend to push you, just sharing my IMHO.
