        Any serious sysadmin is looking for this from beginning of his/her  
carreer to the end.

        There is many tool to do this...to be exact to save historical values  
without presenting them.
        We may talk about Cacti, some nagios-plugin, etc, etc, etc.
        We could also take a look to Dimitri's tool (http://dimitrik.free.fr/).
        On another side, we should talk about hobbit/Xymon

        It seems you have to choose between something which is able to  
collect (dimstat) but you'd have to work a lot to present numbers, and  
something which is able to present a great dashboard (xymon) but you'd  
have to work on collect.
